New Product Development Manager

 Job Title:             New Product Development Manager

Reporting To:             New Product Development Director  

Definition of the Role :

       The New Product Development Manager is responsible for leading a team in the development of New Products. The manager is responsible for developing new ideas and encouraging others to develop new ideas. A key responsibility is to work closely with Product Management [Marketing] and Production Management to ensure that new products are focused on the customer requirements and are designed for manufacturing.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

Work closely with Product Management to identify and review potential new product requirements.

Provide leadership to a development team during the Feasibility phase and the Product / Process Development phase.

Develop timetables for new product development programmes.

Manage the on-time delivery of new products.

Maintain a standardized programme tracking system and a development programme filing system.

Develop and encourage others to develop new product/process ideas.

Work with Patent Attorneys in developing patents as required.

Foster the development of New Idea Disclosures which may lead to patented product or processes.

Carry out competitor product analysis in both construction and performance.

Prioritize new product programmes and subsequent development resources.

Provide technical direction to the development team.

Ensure a cross-functional approach to product development

Adopt co-ownership of the new product release to manufacturing.

Develop an understanding of the Customer Applications requirements

Work with operations management to ensure a cross-functional approach to product development.

Identify and Develop relevant contacts with external research organizations with a view to  conducting material development projects and or material analysis activities.

Be informed of developments in related material sciences.

Understand alternative technologies which may be applicable to improving our existing product /processes.  

Person:         The ideal candidate for the post

Will have an Engineering or Material Science type degree with a minimum of 7 years experience in a manufacturing or Research lab environment.

Experience in dealing with Product development and working to customer requirements.

Have good competence in both English and Chinese languages (written and verbal). This is a critical requirement in order to communicate effectively with customers.

Will have a good understanding of Test Methods Techniques and Equipment capabilities.

Will have a good all-round aptitude for mechanical, electrical and electronic problem-solving.

Will possess excellent interpersonal skills/leadership qualities that will allow you to fully participate in an organization that values teamwork.
